Imagine you're in the car, running a bit late for a meeting at work or a dinner date with a new man and you realise you haven't got any make-up on. We all know it's naughty but it won't hurt to put a bit of slap on while you're queuing for the traffic lights, right?
Well it might do wonders for your complexion but if you're caught applying make-up whilst driving it could really hurt your woman car insurance premium - especially as the Government is clamping down on this kind of car crime.
Plans are afoot to reclassify drivers' bad habits - including fiddling with the stereo, lighting a cigarette or reading a map, besides putting your face on - as 'dangerous' rather than 'careless' driving offences.
The maximum sentence for careless driving is a fine and a driving ban, but a dangerous driving conviction comes with anything up to two years' jail time - that's pretty steep if you were just changing over Michael Bolton on the stereo. And of course, the chances of you getting a cheap car insurance deal after doing a two-stretch are practically nil.
"The proposed new sentencing might seem a bit harsh," said Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the woman car insurance specialists at CoverGirl, "but the answer for lady drivers remains the same: don't let yourself get distracted by make-up or anything else while out on the road."
