It's lucky that parking fines don't affect the price of your woman car insurance - otherwise a shopkeeper from Kent could be looking at quite a rise in her premiums.
The lady in question was amazed to find a penalty notice attached to her car as she owned the land on which it was parked.
She has been parking on the spot outside her shop for the past 25 years without a problem, but feared the worst when council workers came to paint yellow lines on the road. Soon afterward, the first ticket appeared on her windshield.
When she complained, the council told her that her ownership extends only as far as the topsoil - and the tarmac on top is theirs.
"If the land, even if it is privately owned, is maintained at public expense, it can be subject to parking enforcements," a council spokesman is quoted as saying.
But the 52-year-old shop owner isn't backing down over the issue. "I'll fight this to the end," she told reporters.
Gemma Turner, spokesperson for woman car insurance firm CoverGirl, said: "It seems somewhat unreasonable for the council to be doing this after 25 years of trouble-free parking.
"I hope this lady's cheap car insurance rate will be of some comfort to her," she added.
