If so, spare a thought for the women of Southwest Detroit, where carjacking is such a regular occurrence it barely makes the news, and a woman car insurance policy with a no claims bonus is as rare as a four-leaf clover.
On January 16th, for instance, a Detroit woman was out cleaning her Ford Escort one morning when, she alleges, a man walked up her driveway, pointed a gun at her, indecently assaulted her and hijacked her car.
When reporters interviewed residents to gauge the local reaction, they were amazed to find them largely nonplussed. "They're going to do it no matter what," said one young female. "You just have to be prepared I guess."
Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the woman car insurance experts at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "It's an appalling crime - and an appalling response to it.
"A story like this would make the front page of the national papers in UK, but the American audience seems totally apathetic," she added.
"The report makes it sound like the woman's car insurance company will spend more time on this case than the Detroit Police Department."
