It's official: women mature faster than men, and the fact's borne out by the price of their motor insurance.
New research from moneysupermarket.com shows that men have to wait until well into their thirties before they're offered cheap car insurance, whereas women are receiving the same deals as much as ten years earlier.
Male twenty-somethings pay an average of £1,123 for their motor insurance, but once they hit their thirties the figure drops to less than half that (£543). For women in their twenties however, that maturity drop has already taken place, and their average car insurance premium is a more affordable £736.
According to Peter Gerrard, a researcher for the online car insurance comparison site: "It's clear from these statistics that insurers view women as mature motorists in their twenties, while men have to wait a decade longer to have their boy racer premiums wiped out."
"It doesn't take a survey to prove us girls are more mature in our twenties," said Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the online car insurance experts at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services.
"I thought it was common knowledge."
