A Swedish transsexual was outraged to find that her motor insurance rate increased dramatically after the surgery that made her a woman.
You might expect she would see a reduction in price after switching to woman's car insurance, but in fact her premium was about £87 more expensive after the operation.
"It's disgusting," she said of her insurer's decision to change the policy amount. "It's clearly discrimination. There's no logic to it."
A spokesman from Folksam, the Swedish motor insurance firm, said: "She has moved from one [demographic] group to another. It's like moving from Linkoping to Taby, which would also mean a higher premium."
Folksam have since backed down over the issue, however, and the woman's original policy rate has been restored.
So next time a man you know says he'd do anything to get his hands on a cheap woman's car insurance policy, maybe you'd better not suggest gender reassignment surgery - it'll only end in disappointment.
