Woman car insurance news

Woman fails fake driving test 15 years after she passed

The reason car insurance for women is so cheap is that ladies are simply safer on the roads. Statistics show that, compared to men, female drivers aren't as likely to drink drive or speed and are less likely to exhibit risky behaviour.

However, when 30-something Jane Fryer decided to retake her driving test to see how she would get on, she showed that perhaps she shouldn't qualify for such cheap car insurance for women.

Ms Fryer, from Bedford, was inspired to take her driving test again 15 years after she passed it due to new proposals from Europe which would see everyone retaking their tests every ten years.

As a confident driver who had never been involved in anything more than a scrape, she felt positive about passing her driving test again. Unfortunately, she failed miserably, on more than one count.

The new "show me, tell me" identification of parts of the car engine proved to be a sticking point and Ms Fryer barely scraped through the theory test, passing with the minimum 30 out of 35.

However, as she progressed through the driving test, things did not get any better. She failed the practical on several counts, which included running a stop sign and not looking over her shoulder when reversing round a corner.

After the driving test, her Driving Standards Agency examiner commented: "It wasn't the worst driving I've ever seen. But I couldn't describe you as a good driver.

"I've probably never seen a better example of how an experienced driver can pick up bad habits."

Lee-Anne Bass, of ladies' car insurance specialists CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "I think millions of drivers will fail their tests if retesting is introduced.

"Although having once-a-decade driving tests will be beneficial in that it will improve the quality of the motorists on our roads, some of those who fail may have trouble getting around unless improvements are made to public transport."
