The directors of an Osaka motor insurance firm have been left gulping after an American woman has filed a $95 million lawsuit against them.
The woman was prompted to sue after a Fuji Fire and Marine Insurance Co policyholder ran into the back of her in Sapporo, Japan, injuring her neck and back.
When she called the firm to make a woman car insurance claim, however, Fuji Fire and Marine denied the other driver was a member of theirs. It wasn't until ten days after the accident that employees at the cheap car insurance provider were prepared to admit responsibility for him.
The victim's husband, who presumably took turns calling Fuji Fire and Marine with her, said the firm offered no explanation for their earlier denial.
Now the woman is seeking an extraordinary amount of woman car insurance compensation - equivalent to 11.1 billion Japanese yen - from the firm who she says caused her ten days of unnecessary discomfort.
All a spokesman from the motor insurance company would say was: "We would like to refrain from making comments at this moment."
