A study from America has revealed that female drivers are much less likely to die in a road accident than males, which may well play a part in why woman car insurance is so much cheaper.
Taking into consideration the number of miles driven, the study concluded that men were 77% more likely to die in a road accident than women. It puts this statistic down to men's higher risk-taking behaviour, such as speeding and drink driving.
Lee-Anne Bass, of the woman car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "I certainly agree that on the whole, men do exhibit more risky driving behaviour than women - and this can be seen reflected in the cost of ladies' motor insurance premiums."
The study also revealed that elderly ladies are more at risk of fatal injury in a car crash than young men; a fact which, on the face of it, challenges most beliefs about the high young driver serious injury and death rates.
Another researcher in the area of road safety and risk groups but who was not involved in the study, Anne McCartt, explained that old ladies had a higher accident fatality rate than young men because of age-related fragility rather than risky driving.
