Your car insurance may be cheap, but you don't have to be

As a lady driver you may wish to buy cheap car insurance for women, but you would never wish to appear cheap, would you?

So, with all this in mind, it was with interest that I went onto the Sheilas' Wheels website to read about their tips for exiting a car gracefully. Whilst the spoof product they are touting - an 'Exi-quette Curtain' - is amazingly stupid, the advice from etiquette expert Jean Broke-Smith is sound.

• Ensure knees are together at all times
• Avoid travelling in low level sports cars when wearing a skirt that ends above the knee
• If you have chosen to wear a short skirt, have a pashmina, wrap or scarf with you at all times and drape it over your legs as you exit the car
• Try to twist your body as you leave the car – this will help ensure that your legs remain together
• Ask a fellow passenger to give you a helping hand when getting out of the car, allowing you to glide out with ease
• If travelling in a 4x4, beware of higher seats catching the back of your skirt as you slide out
• Try to avoid drinking excess amounts of alcohol when being driven by car, you are likely to lose your inhibitions a little too much.  Be warned!

Of course, The Ladette to Lady head-teacher, Ms Broke-Smith, would have us all drinking tea on a night out and being home in the safety of our parent's happy abode by half past nine each evening, but occasionally, a woman needs to let her hair down. I can hear her reply now, "You can let your hair down by all means, my dear, but a lady never lets herself down."
