Hartlepool woman arrested after choosing wrong pump
A Hartlepool woman has been sentenced for a string of driving offences after cops caught her filling up a stolen car with the wrong kind of petrol.
The 24-year-old was easily detained when her getaway vehicle, a Fiat Punto diesel, ground to a halt just shy of the Shell garage where she had filled up - with unleaded.
Besides the matter of the car being stolen, the woman was booked for drink driving, driving without a licence and driving without valid motor insurance. And on top of that, she hadn't paid for the fuel.
After admitting the offences, the woman was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £210 in fines and legal costs, and £7 for the stolen petrol. And if she returns to driving after the ban is lifted, she'll find her current cheap car insurance rates have disappeared.
"I don't think many legitimate owners would make the same mistake," said Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the cheap car insurance specialists at CoverGirl. "Even a casual glance at the car's model number would have told her what fuel to use."
