A cheap car insurance company has found that environmental concerns are preying on the minds of a growing number of motorists.
Prudential interviewed motorists about their driving attitudes and found that around one in five now feel guilty about getting behind the wheel.
The motor insurance firm's study found differences between gender, age and location in "green" driving views.
Men were found to be more concerned about climate change than women, whilst those aged 18 to 24 were less worried about environmental issues than 35 to 44 year olds.
When it came to location, the most eco-troubled motorists were found in the south east of England, whilst those who were least anxious about green issues resided in Wales and the south west of England.
A spokesperson for the cheap car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services said: "With all the attention that has recently been given to the issue of climate change, it isn't surprising that there has been an increase in the number of motorists who are thinking about it.
"However, it was surprising to learn that more men than women are worried about their impact on the environment - although perhaps this has to do with the fact ladies generally cover fewer miles in their car."
