According to research, more and more ladies are putting cheap car insurance quotes on one side in favour of products which seem to be more environmentally friendly.
This is apparently reflected in car buying preferences too and it is believed to be this "green" drive that is fuelling very high numbers of new car sales.
March 2007 saw the second highest ever total of new cars sold, with 449,287 vehicles being driven out the show room - 20,000 more than industry experts predicted.
The Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Astra enjoyed the top three spots in the new cars sold chart.
However, it was in the supermini sector of the market that the greatest leap in sales was seen. There was a 4.4% increase in the number of Ford Fiestas, Vauxhall Corsas and Renault Clios sold, accounting for a great deal of the overall growth.
A spokesperson for the SMMT explained: "Growth in diesel and supermini cars shows that fuel efficiency and greener motoring are now critical concerns for buyers."
However, the influence of cheap car insurance quotes and other money-saving strategies haven't been entirely replaced with green concerns. It is thought that great value finance deals and the lure of free motor insurance also enticed many people into buying a new car.
