Although everyone knows that car insurance for women is cheaper than for men, a recent survey in America has revealed that there is a good reason for this. Female drivers are less likely to get involved in road rage incidents, which cause many accidents each year.
The research, which was carried out by a motor insurance company named Response Insurance, found that 54% of men admitted to responding to an event of road rage compared to 46% of ladies.
Common responses to road rage include horn honking, shouting, rude gestures, headlight flashing and mimicking the aggressive behaviour that had started the incident.
Ray Palermo, a spokesman for the cheap car insurance company, commented: "Road rage is a two-way street.
"It takes two people to fight. So, if you are subjected to aggressive driving, often the best way to ensure it does not get any worse is to just ignore it," he advised.
Lee-Anne Bass, of CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "Female drivers are well known in the UK for their safe motoring habits, which is why car insurance for women is so cheap over here.
"This research confirms that there may well be a similar trend in America."
