A study by Halfords has shown that female drivers are more likely than men to endanger their chance of cheap motor insurance quotes by using a hand-held mobile at the wheel.
The survey focused purely on people who use their mobile phones while driving, and found that 31% of women use hand-held devices rather than opting for legal hands-free systems.
In comparison, 20% of men said that they opt for hand-held mobiles if they are to talk on the phone when driving.
If this trend continues, it is likely that more female drivers will fall foul of the increased penalties for using a hand-held mobile when driving, which are due to be introduced on February 27th 2007.
The harsher punishment, which includes three penalty points and a £60 fine, is likely to affect a woman's motor insurance quotes in the future, and may push up the cost of ladies' car insurance generally if many female drivers are found to be committing the offence.
