While car insurance for woman drivers will protect you financially in the event of a car accident, it cannot protect you from personal attack.
As the economic crisis worsens, worldwide fears of crime are rising. Attacks on lone women may become a serious issue.
At least one event has already been held in the UK, drawing attention to driver safety for women.
Police in Wishaw, near Glasgow, teamed up with a local motor parts supplier to provide two evenings of car maintenance and driving related events especially for women.
Also this week, a police officer from Oregon, USA has advised lone woman drivers not to sit in their cars, but to drive off immediately when getting in after shopping or working.
He also suggests vigilance around other parked cars; checking for men seated in nearby vehicles. He suggests that if a man is sitting next to your driver's door, you could get in via the passenger door. Or, if you are at all uncertain, he suggests finding someone who could accompany you to your car so that you can get in and drive off safely.
A spokesperson for GoverGirl said, "Car insurance for woman motorists is there to provide the cheapest possible car cover in the event of an accident or damage to your vehicle. We urge our customers to be vigilant at all times regarding personal safety when driving alone, especially at night."
