New research by moneysupermarket.com has revealed that young motorists pay more for their car insurance. That alone is not a new story, but they have revealed that as far as car insurance for women is concerned young female drivers may be treated differently to their male counterparts.
According to their research a male driver living in Lancaster would pay 52% more for his car insurance at 17 years-of-age than one year later at 18.
However, women drivers of the same age appear to be discriminated against more heavily, as the car insurance comparison website found that 17-year-old female drivers would pay 57% more than on application one year on.
A spokesperson for the web based company said, "Using age as a broad brush for evaluating risk has been a bugbear for […] younger drivers for years.
"Ultimately, I think people should be treated fairly based on their own
individual risk profile."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, specialist providers of car
insurance for women, said, "These figures are alarming, but at CoverGirl
we take each car insurance quote on its individual criteria."
