When you're buying your car insurance for women to cover the ten year old Ford Fiesta sitting in your drive way, do you wonder what your car says about you?
New research has revealed that 24% of women see Ferrari drivers as "flashy", and Rolls Royce drivers suffer the same fate as 23% of women polled saw them in the same light.
The survey, carried out for Saga Motor Insurance, asked 2,040 UK representatives for their perceptions of drivers of certain car types.
Luxury car drivers (examples used in poll – Rolls Royce Phantom, Bentley Continental GT) were perceived by two thirds (66%) of the respondents to be the wealthiest, closely followed by executive saloon drivers (65%) such as BMW 5 Series.
Almost a third (30%) believe that drivers of city cars such as Smart cars and the G-Whiz are aware of environmental concerns, and 33% think 4x4 owners are not aware of those issues when driving their Isuzu Troopers and Range Rovers.
Roger Ramsden, Chief Executive of Saga Services, commented, "It seems drivers and pedestrians alike hold strong views on particular car types. Environmental concerns and fuel prices have contributed to a change of attitude towards motoring."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, providers of car
insurance for women, said, "According to the survey luxury car drivers
are perceived as the oldest, at 52-years-old, and if you're wanting to
appear younger, go for a hatchback as drivers of cars such as a Honda
Civic or VW Golf were seen as the most youthful."
