The cost of car insurance for women is likely to rise if they are caught using a mobile phone while driving, new research from The AA reveals.
AA Car Insurance Services surveyed eight insurers; they found one company refused point blank to insure drivers with driving convictions for mobile phone use.
The other seven motor cover providers would increase premiums between 4.2 per cent and 18.1 per cent.
Another recent survey from the AA revealed that mobile phone driving laws are broken by 100,000 people a second.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Car Insurance, added, "Insurance companies
rightly take such offences very seriously and in an extreme case, could
void a policy."
A CoverGirl spokesperson said, "Car
insurance for women is cheaper than for men because we are statistically
safer drivers. Driving behaviour that breaks the rules of safe driving
will inevitably lead to higher premiums."
