Research from the online car insurance experts at uSwitch.com has shown that ladies looking for cheap car insurance for women should cast their net wider when searching for the best deals.
Whilst confirming that female drivers do enjoy a greater range of cheap motor insurance than men, the researchers also urge ladies to look further than the specialist women's car insurance companies such as Sheilas' Wheels and Diamond in order to maximise their savings.
uSwitch.com's study showed that a 30-something Swindon lady who owns a Peugeot 206 convertible would find the cheapest car insurance at M&S Insurance, beating the cheapest car insurance for women company by £25.
Similarly, a 19-year-old female Volkswagen owner from Solihull would find ibuyeco to offer a car insurance quote some £100 cheaper than Sheilas' Wheels and £600 cheaper than Ladybird.
A spokesperson for uSwitch said: "Statistically, women are safer drivers so in theory a female-focused insurer should be able to offer cheaper premiums.
"In some instances, it may be that the female-orientated insurer is the cheapest," he admitted, "but the premiums and cover on offer should be assessed alongside the mainstream market so that women can be confident they have got the best deal at the best price."
