New figures from Sainsbury's Bank have shown that during the second half of 2008 car insurance for women continued to be, on average, cheaper than for men; £463.25 compared with £527.40.
The cost of the average premium, across the board, dropped by more than 3%, from £514.36 in June 2008 to £498.22 in December 2008.
However, the company predicts rises in the cost of car insurance as an increase in costs associated with personal injury claims has been experienced by the motor insurance industry as a whole.
Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager Joanne Mallon said, "Premiums could rise as a result of the rising cost of personal injury claims and also repairs.
"However, given that around two-thirds of motorists admit to some form of potentially dangerous activity while driving, such as eating or using mobile phones, by cutting out these practices we can reduce the chance of being involved in an accident."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl commented, "Car insurance for women continues to be cheaper than for men because statistically females are safer drivers."
