Cheap car insurance for women is available largely because there is statistical evidence that women are safer drivers than men.
It stands to reason, therefore, that a woman who has broken road regulations is likely to pay a higher insurance premium.
New research from Confused.com has shown that a 55 year old woman from Bristol driving a 3.0 BMW X5 with points on her licence would be charged nearly 50 per cent more than an equivalent male driver.
Worryingly, the average cost of the car insurance would rise by 82 per cent, whilst the male's premium rose by only 49 per cent.
A spokesperson for Confused.com said, "While speeding is a tempting option for some, we would advise our customers to think carefully before making poor driving decisions,"
A CoverGirl spokesperson said, "Cheap car insurance for women is made available to safe female drivers. Once penalty points go on to a driver's licence they forfeit the right to the good deals that are out there."
