An interesting question regarding cheap car insurance for women appeared on the Guardian website recently asking, "Is it fair that women should pay less for their car insurance than men?"
Two in-depth answers were given; in the affirmative from Ali Steed, editor of the personal finance website for women MyMoneyDiva.com, and a negative stance was taken by Aileen McColgan, Professor of Human Rights Law, King's College London.
Ms Steed put forward clear cut reasoning to substantiate why and how women get cheaper car insurance quotes and Ms McColgan reasoned that even though male drivers are statistically the gender group with the higher risk factor for insurance underwriters it is inherently wrong to use stereotyping to penalise any group, be it gender, racial or age motivated.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl said, "We provide cheap car insurance for women at cheaper rates based on recommendations made by the Department of Gender and Women's Health at the World Health Organisation, and based on current car accident statistics and car insurance claim valuations feel that we are fully justified in doing so."
