Female drivers in Dudley and surrounding areas may find it easier to find cheap car insurance for women as a result of a year long crackdown on insurance dodgers and licence flouters according to recent news reports.
West Midlands Police told Dudley News that more than 12,000 vehicles have been seized from unlicensed or uninsured drivers in the past year.
In total, over 52,000 vehicles have been removed from West Midlands streets since the power to seize was introduced in 2005. Just under 50% of those have been crushed or sold off at auction.
A police spokesman said, "The legislation is designed to make the roads safer for everyone, as we have found that drivers who fail to have one form of documentation, such as no insurance, are more likely to be driving without a current MOT or driving licence, and hence are far more likely to be involved in a collision.
"Vehicles being driven illegally and inconsiderately are a major cause of anti-social behaviour. They are often linked to criminal activity and used as pool cars by groups of offenders for criminal activity such as drive-offs from petrol stations or to get to and from the scene of crimes."
The police officer cited research from the Motor Insurer's Bureau that shows drivers who get behind the wheel without valid car insurance are 20 times more likely to be involved in an injurious car accident.
The newspaper encouraged readers to report any vehicles without current tax discs to DVLA and to contact police regarding drivers without car insurance.
The availability of cheap
car insurance for women will be helped if more illegal cars and drivers
are taken off the roads and are therefore unable to cause accidents that
require an expensive insurance claim.
