Ladies who are looking for a cheap car insurance quote will find it harder than three months ago, according to the AA British Insurance Premium Index.
In the past three months, the cost of a comprehensive motor insurance quote has rocketed by 4.35 percent. This puts the average comprehensive UK car insurance policy at almost £806, which is nearly twice as much as it was in 1994, when the AA British Insurance Premium Index was formed.
There has also been some upward movement in cheap car insurance quotes for third party, fire and theft policies. Those who buy these motor insurance policies now have to pay an average of £999, which is slightly more than three months ago.
The managing director of AA Insurance reasoned: "Other insurers are now following Norwich Union's lead and have increased premiums to more realistic levels given that the cost of claims is rising at about 6 percent per annum - and this is reflected in the Index.
"In the past three quarters, premiums have risen by nearly 6 percent and I believe this trend will continue."
Lee-Anne Bass, of women's car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "Whilst the average cost of motor insurance is rising, there are still some good deals around.
"The key to getting a really cheap car insurance quote is to shop around and take advantage of any special offers."
