Ladies parking in Kent are being warned to check their car doors are properly locked after a spate of thefts may have left motorists' cheap car insurance policies in tatters.
Kent Police has revealed that a key fob which should lock a car when activated may not work thanks to remote doorbell systems used by thieves. These counteract the locking device, leaving the car open for thieves to strike.
It is for the protection of drivers' possessions and their motor insurance policies that the police are thus advising drivers to check that their car is locked before walking away from the vehicle.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "Whilst most modern cars use flashing headlights or indicators to show that the vehicle is secure, many motorists simply point and press their remote and walk away without physically checking.
He advised that drivers safeguard their cheap car insurance by trying their door handles and remove any valuables from the vehicle before leaving it.
