We all want cheap car insurance; women drivers, young drivers, all car owners could benefit from safer roads and Jim Fitzpatrick, road safety minister, has announced a £3.6 million fund to be granted so that local authorities may address road safety issues.
One of the first initiatives to be announced is a testing scheme for an in-vehicle system that warns drivers when they are speeding and when they are approaching a hazard, such as a sharp bend, too fast. Lancashire County Council has been allocated £849,000 to test the system.
Mr Fitzpatrick said of the current high number of road deaths, "If we are to continue to cut this terrible toll we need to find innovative ways to tackle the road safety problems we face.
"This extra funding will support local authorities using the latest techniques."
Road safety measures within the UK are already funded to the tune of £110 million and this extra sum is to support local authorities using and testing new technologies.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl said, "We specialise in providing cheap car insurance, women are our focus, but all attempts to make the nation's roads safer are welcome as reducing the number of accidents on our highways will make driving today less of a risk."
