Millions of men and women car insurance buyers are switching insurers every six months, a new study shows.
Some 35,000 people move to a different insurance firm every hour as policy shoppers search for better deals from competitors.
Moneyexpert.com, a finance website, carried out the research. It warned that insurance premiums were increasing by about 10 per cent this year.
However, by shopping around, insurance buyers can bag discounts by signing up as new customers for other insurers.

It is a fact that the cost of renewing motor insurance is higher than the initial competitive quote. In effect, old customers are paying for new customers' cheaper deals.
Only 13 per cent of women swapped insurers compared to about 15 per cent of men.
