There are two million women drivers on Russian roads this year, up almost 50 percent on last year.
Compared to the size of the Russian population, 142 million, this figure is tiny. But it's still a significant growth, and one the media and car insurance companies have been quick to seize on.
Natalya Lipotova is the editor of "Women at the Wheel", a newly launched magazine for female drivers. "There were no female drivers in Russia 15 to 25 years ago," she says.
"There was only one car in the family and that belonged to the husband, the brother or the father. Now many more women can afford their own car."
The first edition of Woman at the Wheel is aimed at the novice lady motorist and carries introductory articles like "how to adjust the driver's seat" and "what to carry in your glove box".
Besides the media, Russian car insurance firms like Rosno have been quick to capitalise on the new female motoring market - with gender-specific cheap car insurance.
As in the West, Russian women now qualify for a cheaper motor insurance quote than men. But this isn't because they have fewer crashes.
Elnur Suleymanov, head of sales at Rosno, explained: "The difference is the size of the damage. Women drive slower than men and have less damage in a crash, but they crash more often."
"Too bad Russian lady drivers don't have the same good reputation as their British counterparts," said Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services.
"But it's good to hear smart women around the globe are getting cheaper motor insurance quotes with women-only car insurance policies."
