The ladies' car insurance provider Diamond has been explaining that one reason car insurance for women is so much cheaper than for men is because ladies have a lower conviction rate for driving offences like drink driving.
Admiral Insurance, the company behind the women's car insurance brand, conducted a review of its customers' information and found that there was indeed a clear statistical difference between men and women's likelihood of having a driving conviction.
It discovered that men are one and a half times more likely than women to have a conviction marring their driving licence - a difference that was even more marked when it looked at younger drivers. Its statistics showed that male teenagers are five times more likely to have a motoring conviction than girls under 20.
Explaining the findings and how they impact cheap car insurance, a spokesperson for Admiral said: "One of the really stand out [statistics], which is quite scary, is that men are six times more likely than women to be convicted for drink or drug-driving offences, which is a huge, huge amount of difference."
