Diamond explains cheaper car insurance for women

The ladies' car insurance provider Diamond has been explaining that one reason car insurance for women is so much cheaper than for men is because ladies have a lower conviction rate for driving offences like drink driving.

Admiral Insurance, the company behind the women's car insurance brand, conducted a review of its customers' information and found that there was indeed a clear statistical difference between men and women's likelihood of having a driving conviction.

It discovered that men are one and a half times more likely than women to have a conviction marring their driving licence - a difference that was even more marked when it looked at younger drivers. Its statistics showed that male teenagers are five times more likely to have a motoring conviction than girls under 20.

Explaining the findings and how they impact cheap car insurance for women, a spokesperson for Admiral said: "One of the really stand out [statistics], which is quite scary, is that men are six times more likely than women to be convicted for drink or drug-driving offences, which is a huge, huge amount of difference."
