A female driver escaped serious injuries after her 4x4 hit black ice, fell down a ravine and landed on railway tracks. She could find that her woman car insurance is adversely affected by the crash.
The 36-year-old was travelling in her Vauxhall Frontera with her dog Bertie when the car skidded on black ice. It then ploughed through a wall, fell down a ravine and landed on railway lines next to a train tunnel.
Fortunately for her and her dog, the accident happened on a Sunday - the only day the route isn't used by Whatley Quarry to freight stone.
Commenting on the road accident she said: "It all happened so quickly and I feel extremely lucky to be alive. I am angry that the road wasn't gritted. Had it been, my car might not be a write-off."
A spokesperson for Somerset County Council said: "Somerset County Council maintains one of the largest road networks in the UK and limited resources mean we are not able to grit every road in the county."
In the future, the woman car insurance customer may find that her motor insurance quote increases as a result of the accident.
