Finding ladies' car insurance at a low price is going to be difficult from now on for a doctor who crashed her car whilst drunk.
Dr Helen Batt, 26, was involved in a one-car accident near Little Paxton in August 2005. Accident scene investigators believe that her Toyota Yaris had rolled over, resulting in such serious body damage that it was written off by her motor insurance company.
When police attended the accident, she was noted to be smelling of alcohol and was breathalysed. The results showed that she was over twice the legal drink-drive limit.
Dr Batt admitted the charge of driving with excess alcohol and attended Huntingdon Magistrates Court for her sentence. She was banned from driving for 20 months and was ordered to pay a £250 fine and £60 costs. However, she was offered a five month reduction in her driving ban if she agrees to going on a drive rehabilitation course.
This conviction will not only impact her ladies' car insurance prices, but also her career at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
It is not yet known what action the General Medical Council will take but a spokeswoman for the hospital at which Dr Batt works said: "The trust's approach to anybody who has an issue with alcohol would be supportive rather than punitive."
