Pet safety could save cheap car insurance quotes

Female dog-owners are being encouraged to protect their pet and their cheap car insurance quotes by strapping their pets in whilst travelling in the car.

According to charity PDSA, a dog can seriously damage itself, other occupants in the vehicle and the vehicle itself if the driver needs to brake suddenly or there is a collision.

It revealed the staggering fact that a border collie with no restraint could travel with the force of a polar bear if involved in a 30mph crash.

A spokesperson for PDSA said: "Cars are an alien environment to pets, but by being patient and taking a few simple precautions, you can ensure that a car journey with your pet is safe and enjoyable for all."

PDSA advises ladies to restrain larger dogs with a specially-designed safety harness that locks into a seatbelt in the back of a car, whilst smaller dogs could be carried in a dog basket.

Gemma Turner, spokesperson for cheap car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "Nowadays, most of us wouldn't dream of not putting on a seatbelt when we get in the car. The same should apply to our pets - protect them and your motor insurance by strapping them in, even on short journeys."
