An 80-year-old woman could lose her cheap car insurance for women policy after driving down the wrong way of the A14.
Police are considering the possibility of charging the elderly driver after she drove her Ford Fiesta in the direction of oncoming traffic for ten miles.
A number of motorists feared that a serious accident might occur and so dialled 999 in the hope that police might be able to stop her as she headed towards Ipswich.
One motorist who was in the path of the lady's car said, "The first thing I saw was some cars coming in the other directions on the carriageway and they were flashing their lights vigorously. Then suddenly these headlights appeared in front of me. I was shocked."
According to the police, the woman, who may have benefited from cheap motor insurance in the past has handed in her driving licence following the frightful event.
A police spokesperson said, "The lady was reported for driving offences. She voluntarily handed in her driving licence."
If the elderly woman is reinstated with a driving licence, she may find it difficult to get a good deal on her cheap car insurance for women policy.
