Cheap car insurance customers were more likely to break down at the beginning of 2008 than any other time of the year, according to Britannia Rescue.
In fact, January 2nd was thought to be the most likely day for cars breaking down because of poor weather conditions and heavy traffic, or vehicles simply failing to start after being left to sit for several days.
A spokesperson for Britannia Rescue gave drivers advice for next year's Christmas season and said: "To prevent new year breakdowns drivers should not only ensure their car undergoes its usual checks and services but they should also take it for a short spin at least once over the festive period."
Commenting on the story, a spokeswoman for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the experts in woman car insurance said: "It's really important that motorists drive safely during this period. By looking after their cars they can easily reduce the risk of possible accidents for which they may have to claim on their cheap car insurance policies."
