A woman's car insurance revenge has almost resulted in her husband losing his driving licence for a year.
The 48-year-old man was stopped for speeding in his Ford Mondeo by police as he drove to work one morning, but was also found to be without motor insurance.
He admitted the offence and explained that it had come about as a result of his wife's anger when the two split up.
He said: "She used to do all the paperwork; she shredded the insurance certificate and cut up my clothes. She wanted to get her own back."
As a result of the woman's car insurance retribution, the Eastrea man didn't realise that his motor insurance was up for renewal and carried on driving.
It was the fourth time he had been caught for this offence, and the three penalty points he received on his licence put him over the maximum 12 point limit.
While magistrates could have banned him from driving for a year, they reduced his ban to two weeks as his circumstances meant that he would otherwise suffer exceptional hardship.
He also received a £350 fine and was ordered to pay £35 in costs.

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
