The availability of cheap car insurance for women is directly affected by the behaviours of motorists on the roads today and research is constantly carried out on this theme.
In a new survey by moneysupermarket.com one in five of the motorists questioned admitted to driving without car insurance.
Of those drivers questioned 19% said they had driven a vehicle without the appropriate legally required cover.
Owner drivers who had driven their vehicle without insurance totalled nine per cent; while eight percent of the pollsters had driven someone else's car without cover.
Of the men questioned, one in four said they had driven whilst uninsured and one in six women made the same admission.
Moneysupermarket.com's director of insurance reminded drivers that, if caught without car insurance, they could face a £200 on-the-spot fine and up to six points on their licence. The car is likely to be impounded and retrieving it will cost the owner a £150 collection fee. Storage is charged at £20 per day.
He added, "It is a shame to see so many of us have taken to the roads when uninsured to drive, and this year's results reveal a worrying trend.
"In 2008 we found 15 per cent of motorist admitting to the offence so 2009 has seen an unfortunate increase."
