Every cloud has a silver lining so they say and the reduction in traffic congestion may just be the silver lining to the recession. Gridlock has fallen by 13% in just one year making the roads emptier and safer meaning you will be less likely to claim on your cheap car insurance for women.
The drop in traffic has been blamed on the bite of the recession and the rise in fuel prices. The report into congestion put together by the Department of Transport shows how journey times have been slowly improving since the recession began. For every mile travelled, motorists are now enjoying more than half a minute less of gridlock or delay.
The amount of traffic on the roads has fallen for the first time in thirty years which the AA has attributed to the rise in petrol prices and the fall in trade and business which means 'white van man' and lorries have less to deliver. Other motoring costs such as road tax and ladies car insurance premiums have taken their toll on car owners during the credit crunch and are causing many to find alternative means of transport.
The decrease in traffic is believed to be responsible for the dramatic fall in road deaths which have decreased by 14%. This also means that the number of women's car insurance claims has fallen which will help ensure cheap car insurance for women can still be found.
