An elderly driver could risk losing her cheap car insurance for women after losing control of her vehicle and crashing into a packed beer garden in Rugby.
Five people were rushed to hospital after a lady motorist accidentally drove her Toyota Yaris into a beer garden, knocking over picnic tables and hitting drinkers who were sat outside enjoying the sunshine. The accident could have a damaging effect on her motor insurance premium in the future.
An eyewitness of the car accident said, "I was sitting at a table with a friend and I said 'cheers to the first outside drink of the year - this is idyllic and things cannot get better than this'.
"Then I heard some revving and saw a car just in front of me - it was out of control. I saw it rising onto the kerb and then onto the grass. The next thing I knew all hell was breaking lose - it was pandemonium. Everybody scarpered and then I saw the car go over the girl. I also saw it go over another lady."
Northamptonshire police have said that the female driver, who may have to pay higher car insurance for women premiums, was left shocked by the accident and is being comforted by friends and family.
