Online car insurance company Esure is offering some sage advice to female motorists on the lookout for a brand new car sporting a '57' plate.
A study conducted by the motor insurance company has revealed that thousands of drivers could be making a dire financial mistake by not carrying out proper research before signing up to a new car.
Esure's study showed that as many as 35% of UK motorists wouldn't bother to get a car insurance quote to find out how much their motor insurance premium would be with their prospective new car, whilst 43% wouldn't think of looking up the vehicle's car insurance group before buying.
Failure to do either of these things could lead to people getting a car which costs them a fortune in LL24LLs - something which the online car insurance company hopes to avoid with advice for new car buyers.
As well as seeing whether cheap car insurance quotes are readily available for a new motor, esure advises drivers to look into the security features which come with the car, such as a tracker or immobiliser. It also recommends that motorists get some online car insurance quotes if they appear to be stretching their budget, as these tend to be cheaper thanks to special discounts.
A spokesperson for esure said: "As a nation we're always out for a bargain and value for money, yet motorists aren't putting this into practice when it comes to buying a new car.
"It is crucial for all motorists to do their research before stepping on the forecourt and be one step ahead of the salesman. Being shrewd and shopping around for the best price, finance and insurance deals could slash hundreds, if not thousands, off the cost of driving away in a new '57' plate."
