Research from Environmental Transport Association has predicted that January
5th will feature many breakdowns as work begins again, and suggests that
some womens insurance policies may leave them in the lurch.
The ETA says this is because a growing number of people have been saving money on their cheap car insurance quotes by omitting breakdown recovery, and because cars left unused over the Christmas holidays have a greater likelihood of developing a problem, particularly in this season's cold snap.
The costs of calling someone out can be sizeable, and if the ETA is correct regarding the number of breakdowns and stranded motorists to be expected on the 5th, arrival times may be slow as a result of demand. Stranded female drivers may therefore have plenty of time to re-examine the value of those cheaper car insurance premiums without free breakdown cover and perhaps find them a false economy.
An ETA spokesperson said, "It's not just people who can feel flat following the New Year festivities; the sub-zero temperatures predicted for early January mean many car batteries will fail on that first Monday back to work."
A spokeswoman for Covergirl, experts in womens insurance, added, "Breakdown
cover may seem an optional extra while you are checking cheap quotes
online, but becomes very much essential if you are stranded, shivering,
by the side of the road."
