Research by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) has found that ladies are particularly at risk from becoming overly fatigued. This could be a particular problem for female motorists, who may be risking themselves and their ability to get cheap car insurance quotes by driving tired.
The findings showed that almost two thirds of ladies aged between 18 and 64 had insufficient sleep between one and three nights a week, whilst 70% reported having a regular problem with sleeping.
The author of the book "Can't Sleep, Can't Stay Awake: A Woman's Guide To Sleep Disorders" commented on the report, saying: "Unlike men, women have sleep problems related to hormonal and bodily changes from menstruation, pregnancy and menopause.
"Unfortunately, too often it is women whose sleep disorders are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed because of a lack of education among doctors about these unique problems. This failure by doctors to correctly diagnose female sleeplessness is meaning suffered are putting their health at risk while contributing to dramatic rises in obesity and diabetes."
However, a higher level of sleeplessness amongst ladies could also contribute to incidents of falling asleep at the wheel. As there is often no braking involved in fatigue-related car accidents, sadly it is often not only motor insurance premiums that are damaged.
A spokesperson for the NSF said their study had found that one quarter of ladies risked their cheap car insurance quotes by driving whilst drowsy once a month or more in the last year, 10% of whom had a child passenger.
