Female driver insurance customers have been warned to be extra vigilant after a motorist was recently robbed at a set of traffic lights.
The attack took place in Manchester as the woman driver was stopped at traffic lights. The thief opened the passenger door, grabbed a plastic bag and also took the lady's handbag.
A police spokesperson said: "This woman was going about her daily routine when she was confronted by a thief. Everybody has the right to feel safe, especially when they are travelling in their own car.
"I would urge motorists, especially women who may be travelling alone to be vigilant at all times. Crimes like this can be easily avoided by following a few simple steps like ensuring all windows and doors are locked and having valuable items, such as handbags and mobile phones, locked away and kept out of sight."
A spokeswoman for the experts in female driver insurance, CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: It's extremely important that woman car insurance customers are aware of such thieves and hide valuable items such as their handbags in the glove compartment or boot."
