As the summer starts to take shape festival goers have been advised to protect their cheap car insurance by making sure they do not encourage thieves to carry out break-ins.
Around 60% of insurers only provide cover for vehicle contents up to £100 – for everything, not per item stolen - and if expensive items like cameras, i-pods and mobile phones are taken, this could mean the insurance buyer will be well out of pocket.
A spokesperson for uSwitch.com, said, "Going to a music festival should be a fun experience and reading insurance documents probably isn't high on the list of preparation priorities. However, an event such as Glastonbury creates an insurance minefield for both providers and policy holders.'
He added, "Our advice to motorists is to check details before getting in the car, that way you can enjoy the music with peace of mind. It's always worth contacting you insurance provider to let them know what you're up to as they may be able to help you out."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl said, "Taking valuables to an outdoor event can be risky and leaving items on view inside your car is a great temptation to opportunists who are may attempt a break-in.
"To protect your no-claims bonus and your cheap car insurance renewal premium make sure you keep your items with you at all times, or better still, leave them at home."
