Cheshire police found that one in four motorists stopped over the Christmas period were drink driving - something that could affect the cost of premiums for those with car insurance for women.
Despite having a drink and drug drive campaign, police saw an increase of nearly eight per cent in the number of people who proved positive for drink-driving. It has also been revealed that 16 per cent of those motorists were impaired by drugs.
A police official said: "These findings demonstrate many motorists are choosing to ignore the seriousness of their actions when they take the decision to drink drive or drug drive.
"The effects from drinking alcohol or taking drugs can considerably change a person's ability to drive safety."
Any driver found to be driving under the influence could easily be risking their cheap car insurance and car insurance for women customers could find that they no longer get such affordable premiums.
