Full motor insurance cover is essential in the event of a road traffic accident, but now, more than ever, car insurance is vital in order to cover from accidental damage that may occur when you are not driving.
It appears that extreme rainfall in late spring will be an ongoing occurrence, according to Met Office predictions, and after recent flash floods in the West Country, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has issued advice to owners of damaged vehicles.
They say comprehensive motor insurance will cover flood damage to your vehicle. They also advise policy holders to take pictures as soon as possible of any damage caused.
A spokesperson for the ABI said, "These events highlight just how important insurance protection is. If you have been affected by flooding, contact your insurance company. Their priority is to deal with all claims as quickly as possible."
Last summer's floods - in 2007 - cost the insurance industry close to £3 billion after over 180,000 separate claims.
A CoverGirl spokesperson said, "When the media focuses so heavily on
the housing havoc after severe weather, the public tends to forget that
cars are damaged just as easily. Comprehensive motor
insurance can protect you if you live in or are visiting an area at
risk of seasonal flooding."
