Britain is a nation of horn-beepers, according to cheap car insurance company esure.
Research by the online motor insurance provider found that 90% of UK drivers use their horn incorrectly, with most beeping at other motorists out of frustration after being on the receiving end of 'impolite' driving.
The cheap car insurance firm found that motorists who push in to queuing traffic, use a disabled bay when they are not disabled, pull out at an inappropriate moment or fail to indicate are most likely to be greeted with a toot.
However, as willing as we are to hoot our horns, we also hate to be hooted at by other motorists, esure discovered.
Ladies in particular feel stressed when someone toots them, whilst men are more likely to get angry. However, both genders believe that tooting is a contributor to road rage.
The car insurer went on to delve into some alternative hoots to the traditional "beep". Drivers voted a lion roaring as the most popular alternative, following by a cow mooing and an owl hooting.
A spokesperson for esure said: "Modern life is fast-paced and high pressured which is why people often get impatient and agitated while driving. We're always looking at ways to help drivers reduce the likelihood of having an accident and an alternative sounding car horn could help to make the roads a safer, less stressful place."
