The director general of the Institute of Insurance Brokers has defended companies specialising in car insurance for women.
He rebutted suggestions which said that women's car insurance is discriminatory, saying that ladies' cheap motor insurance quotes are justified because of their better safety record and the fact that female drivers tend to have more minor accidents than men.
However, he also said that some ladies could be paying more on their car insurance for women by having a male named driver on the motor insurance policy.
He said: "Obviously if they took up a policy but there were men or young men also driving the car, then it could negate the benefit."
