Help the Aged has revealed that it is launching a financial services firm which will specialise in car insurance for women and men aged over 50.
The company is called intune and carries the motto "finance without the fuss" to appeal to older people who want accessible, straightforward service.
It will provide a whole range of financial services, such as travel and home insurance, as well as its motor insurance. It hopes to expand these offerings over time in order to provide many of the services that older people want and need.
A spokesperson for intune explained the reason for its creation, saying: "Many companies are guilty of lumping the over 50s into one amorphous 'grey' market and being inflexible or discriminatory with their products and services.
"The demographics of this country are changing and people are staying young for longer, but not everyone appears to be recognising and responding to this growing trend."
According to statistics, by 2050 more than 40% of the UK's driving population will be 60 or older, whilst nearly 25% will be over 70. With an ageing population like this, it is likely that car insurance for women and men of advancing years will account for a substantial portion of the motor insurance industry in years to come.
