If you don't have a valid MoT certificate and you have a car accident your ladies' car insurance could be invalidated and your insurer may not pay out.
According to a recent Kwik-Fit survey one in five motorists is likely to have been over a month late in renewing their MoT, which could equate to more then six million UK motorists driving without valid car insurance because they have forgotten the renewal date for their MoT.
As a result, the firm have initiated a scheme to send customers a free e-mail reminder of their inspection due date.
A CoverGirl spokesperson said, "As possession of a valid MoT certificate is a legal requirement to take your car on the road, there should be an official scheme initiated so that all drivers are reminded. There should also be stiffer penalties for those who do not get their vehicles checked out in time.
"Insurance providers send you a reminder so that you can keep your ladies' car insurance up to date and DVLA send you a form for your car tax, so why is the MoT inspection left to chance?"
