The Pink Ladies arrive in Cardiff

Ladies-only car insurance, women-only cab firms; they all make the world a better place for females and now Cardiff has its very own Pink Ladies taxi service, run for women by women.

The pink car service was created to enable women to travel in confidence and safety around cities such as London and Manchester and now has opened its car doors to customers in Cardiff.

All the female cab drivers will have dedicated women's car insurance, and they will be uniformed and trained in self-defence and first aid. The company's aim is to provide quality customer service.

The cabs are run for members only, who pre-book and pay for journeys so that no cash is carried by the drivers or needed by the passenger.

The company also maintains a "through the door" policy, whereby the driver waits until the passenger is safely inside her destination before driving away.

Lynne Silcox is heading the initiative in Cardiff; she said of the scheme, "We recognise that the vast majority of taxi drivers in the local area are safe and reliable.

"However, it is no secret that in recent years, there has been a steady rise in serious sexual assaults against women in general, and notably when travelling in an illegal cab, late at night."

"We know that this will prove to be a popular alternative for women in Cardiff, and we're confident that it will provide some comfort to them and their families."

A CoverGirl spokesperson commented, "There are some things, such as ladies car insurance, women will always feel more comfortable buying from women. A ladies-only cab firm sounds like a really good idea and a boon to lots of single women who may have to travel alone.
